Six Golden Geek Noninations for Fate Core

The 2013 Golden Geek Award nominees were announced last week, and six of them are for Evil Hat's Fate Core and Fate Core supplements. I've wanted to write about the Fate role-playing engine for some time now and I have done so on my Steampunk blog The Aetheric Sargasso. If you have a taste for role-playing games please check it out.

Won't Come Back from Dead Man's Curve...

With a roar like thunder across the desolate wastes comes Machinas - Death Races in the Wasteland. It's the End of the World as We Know It but the party's just getting started on Indiegogo with the latest project from Ed Teixeira of Two Hour Wargames. Here's a sampler of more Post-Apocalyptica (that doesn't necessarily involve zombies):

Weird World War: Russia's Super Soldiers

PravdaImage via WikipediaNUTS! War Without End isn't released quite yet (here's a taste) but I'm doing what I can to get ready. With that in mind here's a little something from Wired's Danger Room: Captain America, Meet Mother Russia. Pravda would have us believe Soviet Super Science created a unit of cyborgs to face the Nazi menace.
So, what happened to them? Where were they during the Cold War? Seems the Atom Bomb made them obsolete.

Meet the Zeds - Part Two: Z-Troopers

The first group is from Reaper's Chronoscope line

The second group is from Studio Miniatures.

The officer

And two of the 15 sprues of troopers. Swapping heads won't be as easy as some other multi-part plastics, but it's not too different from converting metal.

New Alien Invader: Heavyweight Category

Here's a challenge from Pulp City for veteran monster hunters: http://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/2011/05/30/47005/
This bad boy stands over 5" tall. An impressive commander for alien legions or perhaps this is the reason the dead walk!

CDC Promotes Emergency Preparedness with Zeds

From the archives of the CDC:
There are all kinds of emergencies out there that we can prepare for. Take a zombie apocalypse for example. That’s right, I said z-o-m-b-i-e a-p-o-c-a-l-y-p-s-e. You may laugh now, but when it happens you’ll be happy you read this, and hey, maybe you’ll even learn a thing or two about how to prepare for a real emergency.

Secret Origin of Plants vs. Zombies

Over at Disinformation there's a post on the "Atomic Gardening" fad of the 1950's. Here in the real world exposing vegetables to hard radiation didn't amount to much, but in the gaming universe this real-life craze sounds like a great story hook. Everything from a Super-hero/villain's Secret Origin to patient zero for the Zombie Apocalypse.
